Enabling the Windows Firewall

Enable Firewall

Windows Server 2003 has a host based firewall built in which allows administrators to control what traffic reaches the server. This host based firewall initializes early in the boot strap process to ensure that no malicious traffic compromises the server during boot. It should be noted that this host based firewall is not a replacement for a network firewall.

To turn on the Windows based Firewall:

  • Open the properties tab of either network interface card.
  • Click on the “Advanced” tab.
  • Under the “Windows Firewall” section click on “Settings”.
  • Click on the “On” radio button.
