Server Operating System

The server operating system is the software that runs the server and adds a layer of security to your data and services.

The following list is a set of items that should be reviewed when creating an security audit of the Windows Server operating system.

  • Is the file system NTFS?
  • Are there any unauthorized shares or unauthorized hidden shares?
  • All unnecessary server services have been disabled?
  • Has the server been hardened according to the appropriate role within the organization? i.e.- Web Server
