Robbery

By William Deutsch, About.com

Definition: Robbery is the taking of property by means of violence or the threat of violence. An armed bank hold-up is an example of robbery. A bank hold-up committed by passing a threatening note to a teller is also considered robbery, even if the perpetrator is unarmed.
