A Definition of the Security Term Pwn

By William Deutsch, About.com

Definition:

To gain unauthorized control of or compromise a website, application, computer, etc.

The derivation of this term is unclear, but it most likely originated in gaming circles as a misspelling of the the work "own." It may also have originated from "pawned" and, as such, trace its roots to chess terminology.
