Key Control

By William Deutsch, About.com

Definition: Key Control is a formal security policy addressing the handling of mechanical keys in a facility. An effective key control policy will document
  • the identity of authorized key holders
  • where and how keys are stored
  • the procedures to be followed for duplicating keys

Key Control also takes into account the policies that a lock manufacturer has put in place to prevent the unauthorized production of keys that can operate their locks.
