Definition: DVR is an anacronym for Digital Video Recorder. A DVR uses a computer hard drive to store recorded images. The DVR's predecessor was the VCR (Video Cassette Recorder). The advantages of a DVR over a VCR are increased storage and the ability to search recorded images more efficiently.
