Ok, I said something nice and uplifiting about Facebook last Thursday. Now just in case you think I've gone all soft, here's another reason to be VERY, VERY careful about letting folks use social media on your office computers.
Earlier this month, users of AVG's LinkScanner detected attacks that seemed to be launched from Facebook pages. All of the pages had one thing in common; a picture of the same twenty-something chickie inviting you to view her home video.
Were you to take the bait and try to view the video, you'd see a dialogue box with this reassuring message:
Warning!!! Your computer contains various signs of viruses and malware programs presence. Your system requires immediate anti viruses check! System Security will perform a quick and free scanning of your PC for viruses and malicious programming.
Hmm ... "various signs of viruses and malware programs presence." Am I being elitist, or should I expect better grammar from my software vendors? I'd suggest you pass on the "quick and free scanning."
